Suffolk 2012 Volunteering Legacy

I have recently taken up the role of Suffolk 2012 Volunteering Legacy Officer, a three fixed term position based at the SAVO offices in Ipswich.

Although the job title is a bit of a mouthful, the brief is clear:

To maximise the potential benefits to Suffolk, of the 2012 Olympics, in terms of volunteering in the fields of sport and culture.

The post is jointly funded by a number of organisations including Suffolk County Council, Suffolk Sport, Young Suffolk and the Suffolk Volunteering Federation.

The post is tangible evidence of Suffolk’s commitment to make the most of the forthcoming Games and to try to use them (the Games) as a means to create a positive and lasting legacy on the volunteering culture that already underpins much of what already happens within sport and culture in our county.

We hope to be able to engage new volunteers in sport and cultural projects as well as reinforcing the considerable voluntary input that already exists in this area.

The county’s Volunteer Centres will be critical, particularly in accessing new volunteer involvement. Strengthening the links between sport and cultural organisations in the county and the rest of the third sector will also be crucial.

I shall be contacting and meeting with many of you as part of my role but if you would like to get to me first then I would be very happy to hear from you. I can be reached on 01473 275196 or by e-mail on 2012legacy@volunteeringsuffolk.org.uk
